Pope Benedict XVI by Igor Babailov


Igor Babailov
unveiled his official portrait of Pope Benedict XVI The Truth, The Way and The Life. That the portrait was painted in the United States, and presented in the United States, is thoroughly fitting. It will mark the occasion of the pope's visit for a great many generations into the future.

Mario Panis's second solo exhibit, entitled Flowers, was held in May of 2008. The opening reception was May 9th at Metro Gallery, San Juan, Philippines. The exhibit features a series of oil paintings of roses.


The Debutante, John Seibels Walker

Charlotte Arnold's one woman show at the Palette & Chisel Fine Art Academy May 2nd through 13th was titled "Change is Good" featuring a series of paintings chronicling the last six years moving from Florida to California to Texas and to Chicago.

John Seibels Walker held a special show opening in the new gallery below the Walkers' studio, where he unveiled one of his latest works, The Debutante. His work is also included in a show, titled The Art of Drawing.

Nancy Bea Miller's Still Moments, a collection of Representational Still Life and Landscape Paintings, will be on display May 28th - June 21st, 2008 at the Sherry French Gallery

Member Accomplishments & News
 

Fred Marshall's portraits of Sandra Day O'Conner by Levine and Shikler's painting group were displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and Marshall's was recently accepted into the Smithsonian's permanent collection.

Jean-Marie Chapman won first place in a state competition for the American Mothers, Inc. Art Competition that was held in Oregon. The painting, Leah Sauer, Mother to Many, then went on to the national competition in Nebraska. There, the painting received first place in the American Mothers, Inc. National Art Competition and a cash prize.

Debi Watson received Honorable Mention for her watercolor painting, 7 a.m., at the York Art Associations Spring Members Exhibit and the Air Floats Systems Award from the Texas Watercolor Society's 59th National Juried Exhibition for Not a Lap Dog, which is included in the traveling exhibition.

Judy Carducci was selected to play a "courtroom artist" in a commercial with Lebron James filmed earlier this week in Cleveland.

Nafisa Naomi recently won the Gold Medal at the Florence Biennale for painting from a field of 800 artists from 60 nations.


Cinzea by John Ennis

John Ennis was awarded the First Place Prize for a full-length portrait at the Portrait Brokers of America seminar in Birmingham in February, for his portrait of Cinzea. This same painting had been a finalist in the Portrait Society's 2006 Members-Only Children's Portraits Competition.

Jo Sherwood was honored for her efforts to raise awareness of isolated and endangered cultures through her art. Sherwood's "China's Isolated Mountain Villages" opened at the historic Wilshire Ebell Fine Art Gallery with an emphasis on cultural exchange and cooperation. Sherwood was honored by both the Los Angeles Chinese Consulate and by Norma Vega of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office, who presented her with a Certificate of Commendation

Sarah Parks was commissioned to paint Virginia Beach, VA Judge, The Honorable Pamela Hutchens. (Pamela was Miss Virginia 1982.) This was to honor her ten years on the bench in Virginia Beach's Judicial Court. Sarah was also the featured artist for the month of January at Sage Moon Gallery in Charlottesville, VA. This was a figurative show that received complimentary press in the Charlottesville art community.

Lucrezia Bieler received 1st place at the Festival of Masters in Disney World and Best of Show at CraftArt 2007 in St. Petersburg, Florida for her paper cutting.

Leah Hopkins Henry won Best in Show in the 2007 Atlanta Artists Center's Dogwood Show with her portrait, Isabelle, and was also awarded 3rd place in the Portrait Society of Atlanta 2007 Fall Show with Syah. Leah has been named the 2008 Featured Southern Artist by the Rome Area Council for the Arts and will have a solo exhibition at Rome Area Council for the Arts in Rome, GA, February 18th - March 21st, 2008.
